Tobacco Usage

Effective immediately, no smoking or tobacco products are to be used inside the stations, on the outer apron of the stations, or in the apparatus. We recently had to spend an unnecessary amount of money to repair our septic system at station one due to excessive cigarette butts being thrown into the drains, and this will no longer be tolerated.

Reports

After reviewing fire and EMS reports, it has become evident that personnel are not taking the proper amount of time and effort to properly complete the narratives and needed information. Narratives shall contain all information and events that occured on the call. I will be spot checking reports daily to assure proper report completion and taking appropriate action for those reports that are less than acceptable.

Holiday Pay

As a product of the tough economic times we are in, the county has made the decision to make cuts to holiday pay. September 6, October 11, and November 11 which were scheduled to be paid holidays will not be paid holidays. Regular 40 hour county employees will be taking these days as furlough days, but fire, sheriff and public safety will be working these days and receiving there normal pay. The change for us is that we will not receive extra holiday pay on top of the regular time as in the past. I am sorry for the inconvenience this causes for anyone. I will be furloughed these days without pay,as will all other dept. heads.

Supplies

To prevent constant trips to station 1 and also to prevent inventory issues, all personnel shall request supplies with the appropriate supply request forms available from Kelly Buddenhagen. Supply orders will be faxed to station 1 on thursdays no later that 11a.m. This includes ems and general supplies. There will always be items like oxygen and other items that are too expensive to keep large stock that will have to be obtained from station 1 at other times, but regular everyday supplies are items that are fairly predictable on how much is needed, can be obtained through the proper channels.

Tobacco Products

There have been repeated issues of individuals using tobacco products inside the business and living quarters areas of our facilities. Spit bottles and spit on walls and trash cans are completely unacceptable. Therefore tobacco product use inside stations is unacceptable and is no longer permitted. Use is acceptable in the bays, but will be closely monitored to insure that cleanliness is maintained.

Public Forum Sites

Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, My Space etc. are very easy avenues for violating department and county policy. SOP-Code of Ethics 001.4 States  "• No member shall participate in any function or activity that may bring negative image to themselves, the department, or county."  Negative comments toward individuals or businesses that are made by individuals using these sites brings negative image to themselves, the department , and the county.  Keep in mind that even during your personal time and activities, you still represent the fire department and the county as an employee. Our department is judged by the actions of our employees on and off duty. Violation of such policies are considered severe and damaging, and will be dealt with seriously with the possibility of immediate termination.
